Surveying Instrument Servicing South Africa

The Importance of Proper Maintenance for Surveying Instruments

Regular servicing and maintenance greatly extends the service life of all equipment purchased.

Surveying equipment is often used under stressful conditions. Equipment is exposed to extreme weather conditions, used in dusty building areas and is frequently subjected to bumpy transportation.

Furthermore, proper care by which equipment is used, stored, transported, and adjusted is a major factor in the successful completion of the survey.

Additionally, neglecting maintenance results in unjustified replacement costs –a big problem for companies as instrument prices are not always favourable.

It’s therefore vital to have instruments regularly serviced and maintained in order to avoid inaccurate surveys.

Our knowledge and expertise within the construction and surveying instrument industry means we recognise and understand the importance of accurate instrumentation and the benefits that scheduled maintenance has for surveying instruments and equipment.

Our customers can expect a prompt turnaround time and an exceptional level of service. We strive to deliver repairs as efficiently as possible, reducing possible downtime for our clients.

Tips for Maintaining Surveying Instruments

Below are a few care and servicing tips that should be applied to your survey equipment maintenance routine.

  • Make sure all equipment and tools are kept clean and dry. This is especially applicable to equipment that is going to be transported or stored for any length of time.
  • In coastal areas or damp ambient conditions store equipment with the cases open. This limits the potential for fungus developing on the optics.
  • Metal surfaces must be cleaned and dried. For tapes and the metal parts of tools, a light coat of oil should be applied to help prevent rusting during storage. Remove excess oil.
  • Always remove alkaline cells when storing electrical equipment for a length of time. Leaks can have costly consequences.
